From what I've heard, updating to the latet BIOS fixes this issue.

You can download the latest BIOS (04/21/99) for v7.0 motherboards here:

You can verify your motherboard's version nuber by looking near the keyboard connector on the board itself.

Also, just a note here, using the manufacturer's hard drive installation utility will over ride any BIOS limitations automatically by using a BIOS overlay.
This free utility is included in the box with retail boxed version of hard drives from Maxtor and Western Digital and can be downlaoded free of charge from the respective manufacturer's website (westerndigital.com, maxtor.com, segate.com etc) for older hard drives and new OEM drives.

: I have a M571 system board (V 7) and would like to increase my hard disk size. The manual for the board states that it will support up to 8.4GB drives. Is there a way (e.g BIOS upgrade) to increase this as drives this small are very difficult to purchase now.
