ADDED NOTE:

Under Windows98, you can also disable it from windows by going into the
PROPERTIES menu of the DEVICE MANAGER (right click MY COMPUTER),
then under teh GENERAL TAB, you will see DEVICE USAGE and DISABLE IN
THIS HARDWARE PROFILE. Check this box. This will place a red no mark
over each device. Depending on how your BIOS is setup (either to asign IRQ's or
not) will depend on how this works for you. If your BIOS is set up as
PLUG-N-PLAY OS INSTALLED - YES then this will work. If your BIOS is
setup as NO, then the BIOS will still assign the IRQ's and windows will still assign
the IRQ's to the old sound chip. This also depends on how many free IRQ's you
currently have and what IRQ's your new sound card and possible modem need.

: Sound is disabled in the BIOS (press and hold the DEL key while turning on the computer. Look through the menus, you should find it under Integrated Peripherals if my memory serves me right.

: PLEASE NOTE: Depending on which version of the M571 you have, the M571 or M571LMR or M571MR (with or without modem basically), the modem will stop working also when you do this due to the fact that the sound chip also has the modem integrated in it also.

: : I wish to disable the onboard sound chip and install a PCI sound card. The manual doesn't have info as to which jumper must be changed to do this.
