1. Download the BIOS file for your motherboard (if you see more than one file for your motherboard check the revision of your motherboard. It can be found next to the keyboard connector)

2. Download the corresponding utility. Keep it in mind that file with .rom extension is AMIBIOS and file with .bin extension is AWARD BIOS.

3. Copy those files on floppy diskette (The bios file either rom or bin and utility)

4. Start your system and get to C:\ prompt. Make sure that there is no other program running behind. For instance Windows users hit F8 right after message Windows is starting, then choose the command prompt

5. Change it to A:\ and type DIR (Remember that if the file is longer than 8 characters it will look different in DOS)

6. In A:\ type utility followed by Bios file, for example: A:\ amifl815.exe_biosname.rom.

7. Make sure to leave space between utility and bios file name

8. System may ask you to save the old bios file, answer yes and it will proceed to upgrade the bios.

9. Follow instruction on screen

Keep in mind that if you cancel or re-boot before the flash is complete, your motherbaord could end up being a worthless paper-weight. Same goes if the power goes out.

It should only take you about 30 seconds to complete a BIOS flash, but having the computer hooked up to a Back-UPS is not a bad idea.

Simply be sure you need to do this (for a sepcific result you expect to gain) and be sure to slowly and carefully read and follow the instuctions and you'll be okay.

An excellent web site that I recommend looking at is Wim's BIOS Page:
