First of all, double check that all the cards and connectors are seated tightly - the slots on some of these are a tight fit and you may not have a card seated properly. Pull each card, blow out the slot, and re-insert. Also check the memory chips while you are at it.

Second, check the voltage on the battery with a meter - it is possible you have purchased a dead battery as these batteries do not sell quickly and tend to sit on a store shelf for some time. You can also "quick charge" the battery by holding it on a standard 9-volt battery making sure to line up the positive and negative sides with posts on the 9-volt. When the battery starts getting hot, you are done. NOTE: this is not recommended - but it does work.

Third, make sure the battery holder's contacts are clean - use a little rubbing alcohol and a q-tip to clean. MAKE SURE it is fully dry before replaxcing the battery.

Fourth, If this is happening on multiple machines, it is very possible you have some stray voltage coming in and zapping these machines - this is usually an early warning sign. Try using a uninteruptable power supply (Back-UPS) once or if you must, a very good quality power strip with surge protection and see if this helps.

Lastly, you can always leave the machine on and use power management to turn off the monitor and/or hard drives.

If this doesn't narrow down the problem, you can also check the solder connection on the battery holder. Also, another question could be the power supplies - are tehy the same brand and model? Possibly a fault there taht is draining the batteries...

Good Luck...

: I have a few M571LMR boards with the same problem:
:
: After a switch-off and about 10 Mins non-use the board looses it's CMOS settings. When it boots it reports "CMOS battery low" But, the battery has been replaced with a known good one and is OK. As I have more than one board doing this I suspect that there may be more around with this problem. Is this a known problem with older M571LMR's, and is there any known fix?
:
: Any help would be appreciated.
